How do I know if I have Mold in my house?

I live in an old farm house and I think that there is mold in the walls. There is water and black marks on the walls, is there anyway of testing the air? I have a toddler, is he in danger?

  1. Yes it is quite dangerous. I would call in a inspector or a contractor. Mold is fungus that is decaying your walls and spearding spores all over your house. These spores develop into mold too so I would get it sorted before it speards further.

  2. Mich,
Toxic mold grows in a no sunlight environment with a water source. For instance in between walls with a leaking pipe, humid basements, crawl spaces, inside a/c units etc etc. So mold behind a wall = toxic mold 100% of the time. It will also look like black dust in the surrounding areas. Follow the pipe lines in your home, look for tell tale signs of water leaks inside walls like discoloration in the dry wall. If there is mold/water behind your walls you need to evacuate immediately as its an emergency situation. Especially since you have a toddler, both of you are in severe danger. Toxic mold exposure can lead to brain damage and death. GET OUT NOW!!!!!!!!
