Mold Making: Platsil Gel-10 Lifecast

Full head cast done with Platsil Gel-10. This is merely an overview of the process. I skip over some of the basic steps that are the same with alginate. This is a fairly ambitious process so start small and get the hang of the materials before you try a full head. FXman, the “important” was just for you. Thought you might like to see it as well as hear it. Here’s my latest blog entry on the subject: brickintheyard.blogspot.com Thanks to Patrick (Zigor), Leann, and James.
@CalebaKing Yes, but it is still a good idea to use a little vaseline to aid in demolding.
can you just apply striaght to skin, if you are shaved c ompletely
@jorgealexmr Call us. Sounds like a mixing or contamination issue.
@brickintheyard Can I ask you another question?
Maybe im mixing wrong the Gel 10 cause when i mix it and pour it, when it sets off it get very sticky instead of getting dry to make the cast, any heads up?
@jorgealexmr Not sure. Have not used Parfilm but many of our customers use it.
@brickintheyard Does Pure Lube/Mould Soap and Epoxy Parfilm Spray ULTRA #4 works for this?
You guys are great! very helpful!
@jorgealexmr Yes. You van mold a plaster copy this way if you release it first with mold soap and a spray release such as 2500.
Can i do the same on a plaster cast model?

were do you get Gel10
it’s like… John Cramer’s face from Saw XD
@mikeccuk2006 Please ask this question on one of the video discussion threads dealing with Gel-00.
@brickintheyard
How softer is Gel 00 compared to 10? and what are the other different attributes?
Gel 00 is suitable for making silicone hand and face?
@bigpapa1023 1.Gel-00 is probably too soft for lifecasting applications. 2. A Gel-10 negative mold is not really that expensive when you consider the cost of making an alginate mold, correcting the positive, and then making another permenant mold.
Latex will cure in a silicone mold but it takes a long time since silicone is not pourous.
2 questions: 1- Does Gel-00 work just as well for lifecasting or is it too soft?
2- If you wanted to make a permanent negative of an arm for example, to repeatedly cast rubber arms for props… (Silicone seems like a very expensive molding material for something like that) but if you did use silicone for the negative, what kind of rubber would you recommend using for the casting, (as I believe I understand that Latex does not get along well with silicone molds)
@joeyvader> you can try sealing it with a spray makeup sealer such as Kryolans fixer spray. You are better with a vinyl cap, though.
@crowofdeath2 : Also straws can disort the nostril shape. Worse still, you can carve a groove in the nose cavity if you accidentally knock it…I advise not to use straws!
@ancientloredude Vaseline is the best release for Gel-10 over skin. 2 2lb kits were used in this video if I remember right.
Questions: Do you need a release agent on the face for silicone?
How many ounces of silicone would you need for say a full head, neck , and down to the top shoulders and upper chest(a full bust)?
Thanks for any help
@ronnie3248 Go to the link at the end of the video.
where can I buy Gel-10 & how much is it?
@excelsior331 Check the “silicone face” video we posted a while back. It covers that.
how can I get foam to bond to silicone?
Not sure what product you mean. Gel-10 works great for getting detail since it may be applied runny the 1st coat.
can you use silicone putty
