Making a Resin Support Mold

This is the follow up video to our brush on mold video with 71-20 silicone. Here we are making a support shell with 1512 resin thickened with PolyFiber to create a tough, rigid support mold for our flexible rubber mold.

Great, thanks! I’ll stick with plaster backing.

  2. @jekulac Since Alginate is water based and temporary I don’t think a resin shell would be a good idea.

  3. Can a resin support be made over an alginate mold? I’m using silicone for a final cast, and since it’s so pricey I’d rather not waste any making a silicone mold.

Also, you’re videos are great. I’m learning a lot from them, so thanks!

  4. spell vocano again… child

  5. @brickintheyard Thank you for your prompt reply.

  6. @kylakae The resin is not. The silicone is non-toxic but it has not been rated for food contact.

  7. Is this food safe?

  8. Aww bless that child :P .

  9. @JohnnyDesaint Not sure. I have never tried something like that.

  10. could u use this in a dashboard on a car to get rid of the cracks and make it smooth?

  11. How hot is it.Is it as hot as the vocano? lol

  12. @TheCrimsonEnigma 1st: weight depends on what type of resin used. You can use foam to make it light weight or filled resin (even with steel shot) to increase the weight. 2nd: I used TexClay (available on our webstore) to make this piece.

  13. >> Alright, so I know I asked this question about the bronze version of this cast, but how much would this resin cast weigh? Would there be a considerable weight difference depending on the resin that’s used? And also, what kind of clay was used for the original object? ^^ Thank you!
