1) How do I clean mould?

2)I am buying a new home. Do I need an inspection?

A mould inspection is recommend for every new home purchase. The mould inspection is different from a home inspection. The mould inspection is designed to find not only mould, but equally important, any sources that could potentially cause mould (sources of water intrusions, excessive moisture and/or humidity).

3) I have a musty or strange smell and I don’t see mould growing anywhere what do I do?

You can test the air in your home to determine if you have a mould problem – a mould inspection is recommended. If tests don’t indicate a problem, then you have successfully eliminated mould as a potential source of the problem.

4) If I have a toxic mould do I need to move out of my house?

If the toxic mould is localized to a specific room, the room can sometimes be sealed off. If the mould is prevalent throughout the home than moving out is advised until the problem is rectified.

5) If I have a toxic mould do I need to throw out all my belongings?

6) Why do I need an inspection if I already know where the mould is?

The mould inspection is key to finding hidden mould and water or moisture intrusions (since to have mould you need a source of water or moisture). 7) I think there is mould in my workplace, what is my employer’s responsibility?

Employers are required by section 25(2)(h) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act to take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of workers. The Occupational Health and Safety Act places a responsibility on constructors (section 23), employers (section 25), and supervisors (section 27) to ensure the health and safety of workers. This includes protecting workers from mould in workplace buildings. Various sections of the Industrial, Construction, Mining or Health Care regulations may also apply to maintenance and remediation activities.
